Labegorce Zede

Appellation d'origine contrôlée and Cru Bourgeois Supérieur de Margaux

The Wines of Château Labergoce

Château Labégorce is a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in the Margaux appellation on the left bank of the Bordeaux wine-growing area. It has belonged to the Perrodo family since 1989 (who also own Marquis d'Alesme and Labegorce Zédé). Its vineyard now covers 70 hectares of vines (sandy-gravelly and sandy-loamy terroir), since the Perrodo family decided to combine Labégorce and Labégorce Zédé in 2009, thus returning to the historic dimensions of Château Labégorge 215 years ago. The average age of the vines is close to 25 years, and the entire estate benefits from reasoned vineyard management. The vineyard is made up of the 4 main grape varieties used in Bordeaux: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.

Château Labégorce has always been one of the top-ranked wines immediately behind the classified growths of Margaux in 1855. Labégorce Zédé was classified as an exceptional Cru Bourgeois in 2003 when the classification of the Crus Bourgeois was revised, which gives an idea of its level at the time. Château Labégorce now offers 2 red wines. The first wine, sold under the Labégorce Margaux label, accounts for 60% of production and has the characteristics of an AOC Margaux with medium ageing potential (7 to 12 years) and a charming, generous style. Depending on the vintage, it can be elegant and smooth or more immediately fruity and explosive. Since 2009, we have also been offering a second wine called 'Zédé de Labégorce', also produced by the Château, which accounts for 40% of production and is matured in the traditional way for 12 months in barrels (30% of which are new). The ageing potential of the second wine is fairly similar to that of the first wine (5 to 10 years). Labégorce's best recent vintages are: 2015, 2014, 2010, 2009, 2005. They rank among the great years of Bordeaux wines. The affordable price of Labégorce bottles is an asset, and Margaux lovers on a budget will be able to take advantage of it.
