The wines of Clos de Tart : purchase at the best price !

Both a Burgundian Grand cru and Monopole of 7.53 hectares, the Clos de Tart, in the village of Morey Saint Denis on the Côte d'Or, is one of the most complex terroir of Burgundy. A Burgundy Grand Cru and monopoly of 7.53 hectares, Clos de Tart is located in the village of Morey Saint Denis in the Côte d'Or, part of one of Burgundy's most complex terroirs. Founded in 1141 by the Bernardine nuns of Tart Abbey, Clos de Tart became the property of the Marey Monge family in 1791 before being sold to the Mommessin family in 1932. This coveted jewel of Burgundy was sold in 2018 to the Pinault family, who already own a number of major wine estates (via their investment company Artémis), including Château Latour (1er grand cru classé in Pauillac), Domaine d'Eugenie (in Vosne Romanée) and Chateau Grillet (a monopoly in Condrieu in the Rhône).

Founded in 1141 by the Bernardine Cistercians, the Clos de Tart was acquired by the Marey Monge family in 1791 and sold to the Mommessin family in 1932. In 2018, this highly coveted jewel of Burgundy was sold to the Pinault family, already proprietors of numerous prestigious wineries (via their investment firm Artémis) such as : Château Latour (1er grand cru classé de Pauillac), the Domaine d'Eugenie (in Vosne Romanée), and Château Grillet (the Northern Rhone Monopole in Condrieu in the Rhone valley).

Since its creation, the Clos de Tart has retained the entirety of its surface area and remains the largest Grand cru Monopole in Burgundy. The Clos de Tart, farmed "agriculture raisonnée" (for “farming with reason” meaning reducing the use of chemicals to the minimum), produces red Burgundy (exclusively with Pinot Noir) and is planted upon limestone and marl soil. The vines are oriented North and South perpendicularly to the slope, contrary to the large majority of the vineyards in the Côte d'Or, thus helping the vines of the Clos de Tart to resist erosion during the winter rains. This orientation also means that the bunches receive light from both sides between the morning and afternoon, thus helping gain a better maturity. In the 2012 vintage the Monopole of the Clos de Tart Grand Cru has a noble nose of flowers and black fruit and was rated 17.520 by Bettane & Desseauve. The 2015 vintage was praised by the Revue des Vins de France, rated 18.520, and reveals a nose of spies and crushed red fruits, dense and concentrated with a measured extraction. Like its neighbour, the Clos des Lambrays, the Clos de Tart produces a wine of another appellation, the Morey Saint Denis 1er cru : La Forge de Tart Premier Cru, whose finesse and delicateness definitely evoke a Burgundian Grand cru. The most iconic vintages of the Clos du Tart are the years 2016, 2015, 2012, 2010, 2009, 2005, 2002.
