Domaine Faiveley offers 3 white Grands Crus (Bienvenue Batard Montrachet and Batard Montrachet, plots acquired in 2008; and Corton Charlemagne, historically owned by Domaine Faiveley since 1874), and 8 reds (Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Charmes Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot, Corton, Echezeaux, Latricières Chambertin, Mazis Chambertin and Musigny). They are complemented by an impressive range of 25 Premiers Crus, 7 of which are in Gevrey Chambertin (Lavaux St Jacques, Perrières, Petite Chapelle, Combe au Moines, Cazetiers, Clos des Issarts, Craipillots) and 4 in Nuits St Georges (including Porêts St Georges, Damodes and St Georges) and 3 in Puligny Montrachet (Champ Gain, la Garenne, and les Réferts : bordering Meursault), in addition to the other appellations of Beaune, Pommard, Mercurey and Monthélie. The percentage of de-stemmed grapes and whole harvest depends on the appellation and the profile of the vintage, and is then matured for 12 to 18 months in moderately toasted French oak barrels.Domaine Faiveley's red Burgundy wines are built around a dense, sometimes austere body when young; they often require patience and a little aeration before they can be fully appreciated. The reds of the 2015 vintage are very mature, with suppler, well-integrated tannins. Chambertin Clos de Bèze produces 2 cuvées: Ouvrées Rodin, a tribute to the sculptor, is made from old vines and is superb, with a hint more subtlety than the classic cuvée in recent vintages. The Musigny from a tiny 0.13 hectare parcel produces rare bottles worthy of a great wine. The 2015 Corton "Clos des Cortons" is sumptuous and probably set to mature for at least 15 years. The estate's wines deserve to be singled out for their ageing potential, so you'll have to wait a while before enjoying them.
