The most famous of these is the famous Pommard 1er cru Clos des Epeneaux, produced under monopoly. The estate extends over a total surface area of 9 hectares, cultivated biodynamically. Paul Zinetti took over from Benjamin Leroux as winemaker in 2014, but had been at his side for 4 years. The grapes are 100% destemmed, but not crushed to preserve as many whole berries as possible. Depending on the appellation and the age of the vines, the wines are aged for 18 to 22 months in barrel, with up to 40% new wood for the old vines of Clos des Epeneaux. The wines are not fined or filtered before bottling. Clos des Epeneaux comprises 5.25 hectares, planted to 12,000 vines per hectare, and straddles Grands and Petits Epenots. Comte Armand's great red wine is generally powerful and spicy, but it also displays finesse and refinement, as well as exceptional persistence. It generally reaches its peak after 10 to 15 years' ageing in the cellar, during which its tannins slowly develop a patina. Comte Armand's red Burgundies are as follows: Auxey Duresses, Auxey-Duresses 1er cru, Pommard 1er cru Clos des Epeneaux (another Pommard 1er cru was discontinued after 2011), Volnay village, and Volnay 1er cru Les Fremiets. There are also two white Burgundies: Bourgogne Condemaine and Bourgogne Aligoté. All these wines are of excellent quality and benefit from the close attention paid to the vines and during vinification. The price of the wines reflects their high quality (especially that of Clos des Epenots), but the quality of the wines makes them worth seeking out. At their peak, Pommard Clos des Epenots and Volnay 1er cru Fremiets are excellent choices of bottles to recommend to all connoisseurs in search of the great red wines of the Côte de Beaune, and in recent vintages, the 2015 can be considered particularly successful.
