Clos Marie

The wines of Clos Marie : purchase at the best price !

Clos Marie is one of the leading estates in the Pic Saint Loup appellation in Languedoc. Françoise Julien took over the family estate in 1995 and restructured it with Christophe Peyrus. They produce wines that are very much their own, and since the Pic St Loup appellation was recently promoted to full AOC status, it no longer takes second place to the Coteaux du Languedoc on their labels.

In this way, we can highlight the full potential of this great terroir. Indeed, Pic-Saint-Loup stands out a little more each year, presenting wines of rare finesse in a Languedoc climate reputed to be hot and arid, thanks to varied soils offering a fine diversity of expression identifiable in the cuvées. Clos Marie has 22 hectares of vineyards in the village of Lauret, at altitudes of up to 350 metres, which ensures that the wines remain fresh. This limestone terroir, interspersed with clay-marl scree, gives Clos Marie wines a distinctive mineral expression. Clos Marie is biodynamic, but does not advertise this fact. Christophe Peyrus, by delimiting his plots of land, has created a highly diversified range of 6 wines, with 4 Languedoc red cuvées: L'Olivette, Simon, Les Métairies du Clos and Les Glorieuses, accompanied by 2 fine Languedoc white cuvées: Manon and Les Métairies du Clos. Hailed for their finesse, fleshiness and distinction, the wines of Domaine du Clos Marie are appreciated by wine lovers, and are quite sought-after. The Cuvée Glorieuses red wine is only produced in great vintages and when the conditions are right, to express the quintessence of the estate's production. In a vintage like 2013, the wine has a nose of pinot noir and great Burgundy. The body is splendid, with great finesse, long and racy. Cuvée Simon is a real success in 2017, and there's no doubt that it will go far. As for the white wines, the Cuvée Manon is simpler in its aromas, and the Cuvée de Vieilles Vignes Métairies du Clos reveals a complex nose of apricot and sweet spices, with a round, fruity and fresh palate and a long finish. Christophe Peyrus recommends decanting wines less than 5 years old to avoid any possible aromas of reduction. Clos Marie is a wine to be recommended to lovers of wines with a southern flavour, but with more emphasis on balance and finesse than on strength and showiness.

Other Languedoc-Roussillon estates include Mas Daumas Gassac, Clos des Fées, Grange des Pères and Peyre Rose.
