Lost in the garrigue desert, surrounded by low dry stone walls, Hervé Bizeul and his wife Claudine craft the wines of Clos des Fées, which are now admired the world over for their freshness, fullness and concentration. With almost 30 hectares of vines in the Côtes du Roussillon, Côtes du Roussillon Villages and Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes appellations in Vingrau, Tautavel, Maury, Calce, Lesquerde, Opoul and Espira, the Clos des Fées is a major force on the steep terraces and clay-limestone soils of the Roussillon.

Dynamic and passionate, Hervé Bizeul has developed several cuvées: Les Sorcières, a blend of grenache and carignan matured in vats; Clos des Fées, a blend of syrah, grenache, carignan and mourvèdre vinified and matured in wood; Vieilles Vignes, a vast blend matured in barrels; and the very rare Petite Sibérie, a micro-selection of old vines that takes its name from the winter winds. Petite Sibérie comes from a single parcel of old Grenache Noir vines in an exceptionally diverse terroir: clay-limestone, schist and blackish-red mica-schist with a high iron content. Not far from stopping there, the Clos des Fées has been offering a Grenache white for the last ten years!

Their first vintage, the hot, dry 1998, was made using new ideas and methods, and the Roussillon region saw the emergence of a different kind of wine, one that immediately won over consumers and showed a new way forward. Time and experience have mellowed the wines of these pioneers, guiding them towards the search for balance and the expression of the terroirs of Roussillon, just like Domaine Gauby, one of Hervé Bizeul's benchmarks. This pragmatic winemaker acts in a thoughtful way, making his mark with the 2011 vintage, which the Roussillon region describes as the "vintage of the century": exceptional quality, abundance, concentration, finesse, a dream year that the Clos des Fées domaine has made its own!

The style of Domaine du Clos des Fées wines remains fairly firm, and the wines need a little time in the cellar to mature.
