Domaine de Marcoux

The wines of Domaine Marcoux : purchase at the best price !

Domaine Marcoux is located in the Rhone Valley and was founded in 1975 by the Armenier family. The vines have been in the family for centuries, but it was Philippe Armenier who, joining his father on the estate, encouraged him to create the domaine Marcoux brand, and thus stop selling his harvest to the wine merchants. By the 1980s, Domaine Marcoux had built up a substantial international clientele, leaving only a quarter of its production for the French market. Sophie Armenier joined her family at Domaine Marcoux in 1988 and began converting to organic and biodynamic viticulture in 1991. Philippe Armenier left the Marcoux estate at the end of the 1990s, and his two sisters (Sophie and Catherine) now manage the Marcoux estate alone, increasing the size of the vineyard to 21 hectares. Sophie Armenier's son joined the Marcoux estate in 2015 and takes particular care of the estate's vines, which are spread over 7 lieux-dits in Chateauneuf du Pape.

At Domaine Marcoux, the grapes are harvested when they are very ripe, and Marcoux wines have a rare naturalness and depth, an energy and natural power on the palate without being overly woody. Marcoux wines can be described as classic, typified by old, ripe Grenache grapes, and suitable for ageing, which gives them flavour and balance. The Marcoux Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes cuvée is a 4.5 hectare parcel in the Charbonnière and Esqueirons sectors, close to the centre of the Chateauneuf du Pape appellation, with 99% Grenache. Chiselled, pure, deep and elegant, with a black cherry and cocoa finish, this cuvée is one of the best produced in Chateauneuf du Pape. In addition to the Vieilles Vignes cuvée, Domaine Marcoux offers 2 other cuvées: a Rhone red and a Rhone white, also in the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation. Made from 80% Grenache for the red wine and 70% Roussanne for the Marcoux Châteauneuf white, it is very seductive when young, with notes of yellow fruit and a generous palate. Although in the early 2000s, Domaine Marcoux sometimes seemed to produce very concentrated wines, all the cuvées have now found their balance. These white wines regularly rank among the finest in the Chateauneuf du Pape appellation, and have gained in minerality and salinity. Domaine Marcoux also produces an excellent red Lirac as well as a red Cotes du Rhone wine and 2 vins de Pays (red and white) called Raisin de Loup. The white Raisin de Loup is very rare, with fewer than 1000 bottles produced, and is made from the Clairette rose grape variety (the pink form of the Clairette blanche).
