The famous critic Robert Parker awarded the estate's Châteauneuf du Pape cuvée 'La Reine des Bois' exceptional tasting scores, sometimes approaching or reaching 100/100 (as with the 2001 vintage), and the estate's reputation really took off thanks to this perfect score.
Taking their cue from Robert Parker's tastes, the red Châteauneuf du Pape wines from Domaine de la Mordorée are powerful and very demonstrative, sometimes accompanied by heavy ageing. Christophe Delorme passed away at the end of 2015 and is now succeeded by his wife and daughter. The range of wines includes "La Dame Rousse" in the Lirac white and red appellations, and in the Tavel AOC; the estate produces a "La Reine des Bois" cuvée in the same appellations, as well as for Châteauneuf du Pape. In Châteauneuf, there is no 'Dame Rousse' cuvée, but a 'Dame Voyageuse' cuvée (lighter than Reine des Bois, and 90% Grenache). In exceptional vintages (such as 2003 and 2005), the estate produced a cuvée (in a very limited edition) that proved even more demonstrative: 'La Plume du Peintre', but this was more an exercise in style designed to satisfy a public in search of rare, exceptional cuvées. The estate's best red wines can be laid down, and it's advisable to wait at least 10 years for the best vintages, to allow the tannins and substance to mellow a little, because Châteauneuf du Pape wines in their youth are exceptionally dense, and sometimes a little too demonstrative; but this style of wine knows how to find its audience. The wines here are reasonably priced and offer good value for money.
