Alain Graillot passed on the reins to his son Maxime, who shares the same passion and philosophy. Maxime took over the estate in 2008 after graduating in oenology, and he continues his father's work by maintaining the same viticultural practices: harvesting at full maturity, vinifying whole grapes, giving priority to the wines' fragrance and a certain finesse and structure. As the vineyards are located in the heart of the alluvial plain of pure pebbles and gravel rocks of Glun, the terroir and practices make the red and white wines of Domaine Graillot accessible and extremely drinkable compared to most other wines in the area. The strength of the domaine's wines lies in the immediate pleasure they give, even if they are capable of ageing with complexity for ten years or more, from the simple Crozes-Hermitage to the immense cuvée 'La Guiraude'. However, La Guiraude can close up after bottling, so you'll need to decant it to get the most out of the wine. The 2015s, a sunny vintage, are particularly successful, and the Crozes-Hermitage is stained, smoky and full-bodied, with a hint of violets. The top-of-the-range cuvée "La Guiraude", made from a selection of the best barrels, has a rather similar aroma, but with more body and a very spicy nose. It will be necessary to keep the more square St Joseph for a few years. The international critics were quick to recognise the qualities of Domaine Alain Graillot in this appellation, so the wines are sought after by discerning wine-lovers.
