Domaine Denis Bachelet is a small estate (less than 4 hectares of vineyards) located in the commune of Gevrey Chambertin in Burgundy. Denis Bachelet has presided over the destiny of the estate for some forty years, and its international reputation is well established. In fact, thanks to its small production, which is still in great demand on the export market, Domaine Denis Bachelet is one of Gevrey Chambertin's star estates, with a huge international reputation. Like Domaine Dugat Py, the majority of Domaine Denis Bachelet's vineyards are made up of very old vines, some of which are over a hundred years old, giving the wines that extra soul that some estates sometimes lack.

The famous international critic Clives Coates described Denis Bachelet's wines as great, concentrated, harmonious, restrained and pure, with a rare intensity, elegance and subtlety. At the domaine, Denis Bachelet is assisted by his son Nicolas Bachelet, and the winemaking methods, which are accompanied by less frequent punching of the cap because the emphasis is above all on finesse, and underpinned by ageing that is always subtle, have enabled the wines to be affordable earlier than in the past. The range of cuvées includes red Burgundy, Côtes de Nuits villages, Gevrey Chambertin vieilles vignes, Gevrey Chambertin 'Les Evocelles', Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux and a sumptuous Charmes Chambertin on the Burgundy Grand Cru side. Domaine Denis Bachelet's wines can be enjoyed young, on the fruit, but it is advisable to wait 7 to 10 years in order to get the most out of their real evolutionary potential (especially given the rarity of the bottles). As it is difficult to find Domaine Denis Bachelet wines in France, since most of the production goes abroad, don't miss out on the latest vintages, including the magnificent 2018! The Gevrey Chambertin vieilles vignes, made without any tricks, has a majestic nose of raspberry and black fruit, and already gives a glimpse of the fullness, complexity and silkiness of the estate's wines (6/8 years cellaring). The Gevrey Chambertin Premier Cru les Corbeaux, with its creamy raspberry nose and delicate hint of sandalwood, is very elegant, subtle and charming. As for Charmes Chambertin, its power, its school balance and the intensity of its finish make it a great wine for laying down, to be sought after by all Burgundy lovers. The best red vintages in these appellations are 2015, 2012, 2010, 2009 and 2005. The only downside is the scarcity of production on the French market, so when bottles from Domaine Denis Bachelet are available, don't hesitate to snap them up.
