Founded in 1975 by Chantal Lescure and Xavier Marchard de Gramont, the estate is a family property established on a 18-hectare vineyard, stretching from the northern slopes of Dijon to the south of Meursault. In 1996, Chantal Lescure's sons, Aymeric and Thibault Machard de Gramont, took over the reins of the estate after their mother's passing.
They decided to rethink the operation, hiring François Chavériat as the cellar master in 1996. Striking a balance between tradition and modernity, Chavériat initiated a turning point in the estate. Under his guidance, the vineyard adopted agrobiology in 1997 and obtained organic certification in 2009. The estate, spanning from the Côte de Nuits to the Côte de Beaune, is now renowned for its refined and powerful wines. Aymeric Machard de Gramont, succeeding his mother, reorganized the estate to infuse a new dynamic, solidifying the domain's reputation.
The estate extends from Chambolle-Musigny in the Côte de Nuits to Volnay in the Côte de Beaune, occupying numerous plots in prestigious appellations: Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Pommard, Beaune, and Volnay.
Red wines, dense and structured, dominate as the vineyard comprises 16.6 hectares of Pinot Noir compared to only 1.7 hectares of Chardonnay (and a tiny bit of Pinot Gris).
The vineyard is entirely cultivated using organic agriculture, certified since 2006. With a deep respect for soil life, plants, and the environment, the philosophy is simple: produce authentic and pure wines, true to their terroir. The quest for optimal maturity is pursued through naturally controlled yields.
Wine aging follows a traditional approach, in hard oak barrels for 16 to 20 months, with a moderate use of new wood. Bottling is carried out without prior filtration during a favorable lunar phase, inspired by biodynamic principles.
Each year, the estate produces 19 cuvées from 35 plots, employing a gentle and attentive winemaking process tailored to the specificities of each terroir. Aging occurs on lees, in Burgundian barrels and 500-liter casks, with a restrained use of new wood. Bottling, without filtration or fining, takes place at the estate.
Standout plots at the estate include Nuits Saint Georges premier crus Les Vallerots and Les Damodes, Vosne Romanée 1er cru Les Suchots, and Clos de Vougeot for the northern part of the vineyard. In the Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er cru Les Chouacheux and Pommard premier cru Les Bertins are the flagship expressions of this domaine.
