Today, Jean-François Rougier is the seventh generation to own Château Simone. The vineyard extends over 25 hectares of vines planted on limestone soils. 13 hectares are planted with red grapes, including Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cinsault. There are 12 hectares of white vines: clairette, grenache blanc, bourboulenc, ugni blanc and viognier. The northern exposure guarantees very gradual ripening. Some plots are over a hundred years old. The grapes are harvested by hand and the estate is farmed organically. The estate produces around 100,000 bottles a year. Among the wines produced, the white Cuvée Simone, a blend of Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Ugni Blanc and Bourboulenc, has a lovely golden colour. The nose is floral, with aromas of lime blossom, honey and dried fruit with age. On the palate, the wine is fresh, subtle and full of panache with age. The red Simone cuvée, made from Cinsault, Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre and Syrah, has a powerful, structured nose with lovely aromas of ripe fruit. The colour is a deep ruby. On the palate, the red fruit notes are beautifully complex. The white wines, thanks in particular to their northerly orientation, have good acidity and are capable of ageing for a very long time. They really start to be interesting after around twenty years in the cellar. In fact, the whites have a much better reputation than the reds.
