The wines of Domaine Charvin : purchase at the best price !

The Charvin estate, located in Orange in the Rhone department (on the outskirts of Chateauneuf du Pape), has been in existence since 1851, but the entire wine production was sold to the wine trade at the time, as the Charvin family was also involved in farming. Laurent Charvin has now taken over from his father Gérard Charvin, and is at the head of a 32-hectare estate of mainly red vines in the northern part of the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation (only 0.6 hectares of white wine are produced here).

Laurent Charvin decided to bottle his own wines in 1990, and immediately attracted the attention of critics (including Robert Parker), winning high tasting scores. Today, the Charvin estate is farmed organically and produces wines with a very classic, non-woody profile, as they are matured in concrete vats. Domaine Charvin vinifies a lot of its wines in whole bunches, which gives them a touch of freshness, but can also be rustic and tannic when young. It is therefore advisable to wait 8 to 10 years for the grapes to mellow before enjoying them. The parcels of old Grenache grown on the Charvin estate give their best expression in warm years (of which there are many in Châteauneuf du Pape), because they are located to the north of the appellation on slightly cooler terroirs, which allow them to gain in freshness and finesse, while retaining a remarkably restrained power. Syrah, Mourvèdre and the rare Vaccarèse complete the blend of this unique cuvée of Châteauneuf du Pape Charvin, which is one of the appellation's wines not to be missed.

Just taste the 2005, 2007 or 2010 vintages to appreciate the real ageing potential of Domaine Charvin's Châteauneuf du Pape wines, which will develop over 15 to 20 years. Domaine Charvin also produces 2 wines in the Cote du Rhône appellation: 1 white Côte du Rhône (a very limited production that has gained in finesse in recent years, delivering pleasant floral notes), and a red Cote du Rhone, a magnificent fruity bomb that can be enjoyed over 5 to 8 years. Domaine Charvin also produces a Cote du Rhone rosé for the table, very powerful and spicy, with a deep colour and hints of blood orange that show just how different such a wine can be from the usual rosés from Provence, which are more discreet in colour. A perfect accompaniment to grilled meats. The quality of Domaine Charvin wines is at the very top of the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation, and don't hesitate any longer when faced with older vintages, as the value for money is simply excellent.
