Gramenon

The wines of Domaine Gramenon : purchase at the best price !

The story of Domaine Gramenon began in 1978 when Philippe and Michèle Laurent decided to buy a building and its 12 hectares of vines in Montbrison sur Lez, near Montélimar in the Drôme, in the heart of the Rhône Valley. Domaine Gramenon now covers 26 hectares of vineyards. While many people here deliver their grapes to the cooperative, the vines at Domaine Gramenon have been grown naturally and organically from the outset, and the entire vineyard is now certified Organic and Demeter, thanks to their strong adherence to biodynamic practices.

Domaine Gramenon has made a name for itself with its authentic wines of character, produced in a terroir with no particular classification other than Cotes du Rhone or Vinsobres. After the accidental death of Philippe Laurent in 1999, his wife Michèle took over the production of Gramenon wines, assisted by her son Maxime. The different vintages of Domaine Gramenon are: Gramenon Poignée de Raisins, made from young Grenache vines, for quick drinking. Gramenon Sierra du Sud, made from Syrah, is bursting with fruit and should be drunk before it is 5 years old. Domaine Gramenon's cuvée Elémentaire is made from 45-year-old vines and is 75% Grenache and 25% Syrah. It should be aerated to remove any reduction and can be drunk over 4/6 years. The Cuvée Gramenon La Sagesse is made from 100% Grenache vines over 50 years old. It is beautifully fruity and concentrated, and can be kept for up to 10 years. Gramenon La Papesse is produced on the northern slopes of the Vinsobres AOC, again with old Grenache vines, but it develops more quickly. Finally, the famous cuvée Gramenon La Mémé, Ceps centenaires, is made from very old Grenache vines (120 years old), and it's fair to say that for a centenarian, it's literally bursting with energy. It is very racy, complex and long on the palate. We recommend keeping it for ten years or so to get the most out of its complexity. It can be aged for 15 years. In certain years considered to be of exceptional quality, Domaine Gramenon produces a rare cuvée of 80-year-old Grenache called A Pascal. In normal years, it is blended with the cuvée la Sagesse. In short, the wines of Domaine Gramenon are highly recommendable, and deserve to be known by all lovers of authentic, unadorned wines.
