Aurélien Suenen makes Champagne harvested from just 3 hectares: their Chardonnays come from Oiry, Cramant and Chouilly and their small plot of ungrafted Pinot Meunier from the Vesle valley.
Aurélien Suenen listens and attentively observes his vines so as to attain the purest expression possible in his Champagnes. As a committed "artisan vigneron", who desires that his terroir can express itself in the most natural and purest way, he has excluded all synthetic treatments since 2012 as well as begun to precisely and rigorously labour the soil and plant life to find a better balance of flora and fauna. Same philosophy in the cellar. In 2014 he only does wild fermentation, without addition of external yeast and banned collage, filtration and abrupt cooling. After all this, combined with a meticulous usage of barrels, their Champagnes express themselves as naturally as they are made, for the pleasure of Champagne connoisseurs! Aurélien Suenen's fresh, deep and racy Champagnes from Grand Cru villages enhance each terroir. Start with the generosity of the Suenen Oiry Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru (blended from five plots), then tempt yourself with the elegance and finesse of "C+C" Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru (a blend of ten plots from the terroirs of Cramant and Chouilly). Aurelien Suenen also makes a remarkable single plot wine from Cramant, "Les Robarts", a delicate vintage Champagne made for the first time in 2012. There's also "Le Mont Aigu" a plot from Chouilly and "La Cocluette, a lieu-dit from Oiry, both produced for the first time in 2013. If you appreciate subtlety and authenticity in your Champagnes then you cannot miss his "MBDA" Extra Brut Grand Cru, a vibrant gastronomic wine. Great vintages since the 1980's to be on the lookout for in Champagne in general: 1982, 1985, 1989, 1990, 1996, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2015 et 2018.
