The Les Creisses cuvée is made up of 2 blended terroirs: 11 hectares on a stony clay-limestone plateau with deep soil, and 20 hectares of plots on poorer gravel terraces (Villafranchian gravel) surrounded by woodland and planted with old Grenache and Cinsault. The blend of these 2 terroirs and the Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan grapes produces silky, dense, fresh wines thanks to the limestone terroir, combined with the finesse provided by the old Grenache and Cinsault grapes. Domaine Les Creisse also produces a second Vin de Pays cuvée called Les Brunes, and the Mourvèdre (20%) that makes up part of this cuvée comes from a hillside terroir on an ancient lava flow, facing south-east. The dark basalt soil here has given its name to the Les Brunes cuvée. However, Les Brunes, in the Coteaux du Languedoc appellation, is made primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), with Syrah (20%). Philippe Chesnelong receives technical advice from his Bordeaux cousin, Louis Mitjaville, whose experience in winemaking and ageing is undeniable. Les Brunes is a powerful red Languedoc, aged for 16 to 18 months in barrels, one-third of which are new, and requiring a few years of cellaring. Les Brunes has great depth and a very dark, intense colour, while developing aromas of blackcurrant, red fruit and spices. The tannic structure is tight, and the finish of this red wine is nevertheless invigorating, with cocoa and a hint of minty freshness. The Cabernet Sauvignon and the sunshine of the Pays d'Oc give it some of the style, structure and richness of a great Bordeaux wine... It should keep for 5 to 8 years, and it is advisable to aerate the wine well before serving, to get the most out of it. Domaine Les Creisses is well known to wine-lovers and recognised by specialist critics. It can also be found on the tables of the best restaurants, and you should not hesitate to buy a few bottles, as the potential of Domaine Les Creisses wines is great, and the value for money undeniable.
