Today, the Pierre Yves Colin Morey estate covers 13 hectares of vineyards and produces a range of around twenty crus, including 5 from Saint Aubin (4 of which are Premier Crus), 6 from Chassagne Montrachet, including 1 village and 5 1er Crus (Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Chenevottes, 1er Cru Morgeot, 1er Cru Caillerets and 1er Cru Baudines), + 1 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Garennes. The range is completed by 3 Meursault wines, including 2 Meursault Premiers Crus (les Charmes + 1er Cru Les Perrières) and 2 Bourgogne Grands Crus: Corton Charlemagne, and Batard Montrachet. Pierre Yves Colin Morey is a specialist in Chardonnay, which has made the reputation of Bourogne's white wines (92% of the estate). He is reputed to be one of the most gifted winemakers of his generation. The soils are worked or grassed on the steepest plots. Pierre Yves Colin Morey is particularly careful to pick his grapes with a perfect balance between freshness and optimum ripeness, depending on the characteristics of the different vintages. The white grapes are pressed as whole bunches and the pressings are long and gentle, magnifying the body and complexity of the wines. Half-muids of 350 litres are used for fermentation, with around 30% new wood, and Pierre Yves Colin Morey wines are aged for between 16 and 20 months without stirring. The wine is bottled without filtration, and in order to avoid problems of premature oxidation, the diameter of the natural corks has even been increased, and wax is used for the bottles of the Pierre Yves Colin Morey estate, to ensure optimal and homogenous conservation of the vintages. Caroline MOREY (Jean Marc Morey's daughter) gradually inherited her father's plots (7 hectares) in 2014. This was the right moment for her to launch the creation of this 'new' domaine, and her own label. Caroline Morey's various wines, all of a very high standard, reflect the terroir from which they come, as do the 4 Chassagne Montrachet Premiers Crus from her estate: 1er Cru Les Vergers, 1er Cru Les Chaumées, Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru les Champs Gains and Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru les Caillerets. An excellent Chassagne Montrachet Village 'Les Embrées' completes the range, and the very rare and superb Criots Batard Montrachet represents the pinnacle of its production. In terms of vintages and white Burgundies in general, the most famous are: 1989, 1996, 1999, 2002, 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. Caroline Morey's wines can be compared to great 'haute couture' wines, and it is advisable to wait for these delicious bottles to reach their peak (around 7 to 10 years) before appreciating them to the full.
