The plantings of the Domaine Josmeyer are 20% Riesling, 24% Pinot blanc, 21% Pinot gris, 19% Gewurztraminer, the last 8% is a mix of Sylvaner, Muscat and Pinot noir. The Domaine Josmeyer was always worked in lutte raisonnée (“reasonable” use of pesticides, in opposition to conventional viticulture) and in respect of nature, yet in 2004 it received AB organic and biodynamic certification. The 5th generation, currently represented by Céline and Isabelle Meyer, succeeded their father Jean Meyer in 2016. The wines of the Domaine Meyer are reputed for their finesse and are aged in large hundred years old casks that vary in size from 1000 to 6000 litres. Elevage takes place on the lees and they naturally stabilise over the winter. After bottling, the wines are often stocked for years before release so as to offer bottles near maturity to consumers and amateurs. The Josmeyer Riesling Grand cru Brand is from a minuscule plot of the Domaine Josemeyer of about 40 years The granite terroir of the Grand cru Brand provides finesse and precision to Riesling, truly one of the great white varietals, capable of precisely translating great terroir. The Riesling Grand cru Brand is a wine of purity and complexity. While still young in 2017, it is carried by a sharp acidity that is civilised by a slight quantity of residual sugar. Great tension, great minerality and great lenght, this harmonious Brand is sure to blossom over 5 to 7 years, at least. Also, a Grand cru, the Josmeyer Riesling Hengst Samain 2014 is spicy and restrained with a beautiful bitterness that gives it complexity and vivacity. The tension in the Josmeyer Grand cru Hengst is impressive, as is its elegance and aromatic purity, making it an ideal gastronomic wine destined for sea fish dishes such as sea bass, turbot, monkfish or shellfish such as lobster or crayfish. The wines of the Domaine Josemeyer are all about elegance and should thusly seduce all amateurs and connoisseurs of Alsace's finest white wines.
