Domaine Jean Claude Bachelet is best known for its white Burgundies, although it also produces a few red Burgundies. The vinification process is as natural as possible, and the wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (for 2 winters) on fine lees, so that each wine evokes the terroir from which it is made, and thus provides the finesse, depth and structure needed for a wine that can be laid down. In the St Aubin range, 3 Premiers Crus dominate: St Aubin 1er Cru le Charmois, 1er Cru les Murgers des Dents de Chien and 1er Cru En Remilly. In Puligny Montrachet, the simple Village Les Aubues is a wine of substance, fleshy, sapid, pure and concentrated with delicate brioche flavours, and is an excellent entry-level wine. The Puligny Montrachet les Encégnières (located just below the famous Bourgogne Grands Crus-Batard Montrachet and the Bienvenues Batard Montrachet) is pure, chiselled and lively, with notes of citron and grapefruit and restrained power. The Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru La Boudriotte is very mineral (wet stone), powerful and intense, with a long finish of citrus zest bitters. The Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Blanchot Dessus is one of the 2 jewels in the crown of the Jean Claude Bachelet estate, and may take longer to age (7 to 10 years recommended) as it needs to digest its ageing to approach the breed of a Grand Cru. It is a fine, fruity wine with an intense finish. Finally, the only Grand Cru from the Bachelet estate, Bienvenues Batard Montrachet, is sought after by all lovers of great white wines. This great white Burgundy wine captures the power and finesse of such a terroir with charm and precision. Often characterised by patisserie and very exotic aromas in warm vintages, it does not fully express itself after a minimum ageing period of 7 to 10 years, and then demonstrates all the greatness that we have a right to expect from Burgundy Grands Crus: fullness, power, stimulating acidity, and exceptional length with a saline finish. In terms of vintages and white Burgundies in general, the most famous are: 1989, 1996, 1999, 2002, 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. As you can see, Domaine Jean Claude Bachelet is a wine to be recommended without moderation to all lovers of great Burgundy whites.
