Together with his wife Céline, Vincent Dureuil carefully looks after the 20 hectares of his vineyard (including 13 hectares of white Burgundy), mainly located in the Rully appellation, although Domaine Dureuil Janthial also produces 2 red wines from Nuits St Georges, including 1 village and a Premier Cru Clos des Argillières, 1 red Mercurey and 2 excellent whites from Puligny Montrachet, including the village cuvée Corvée des Vignes and the Premier Cru les Champs Gains. The estate has been certified organic since 2009. The strength of Domaine Dureuil Janthial, apart from Vincent Dureuil's exceptional winemaking skills, lies in its magnificent heritage of old vines, some of which are a hundred years old, such as those of Rully 1er Cru Meix Cadot Vieilles Vignes (planted in 1920 by Pierre Janthial, his great-grandfather). The vineyard is managed with respect for the terroir and nature, and according to the lunar calendar which accompanies the many tasks in the vineyard as well as the various stages in the cellar. As a result, the quality of the juice is superb, and Domaine Dureuil Janthial has received rave reviews from the trade press, which is richly deserved. The Domaine Dureuil Janthial range includes no fewer than 9 white Rully wines (including 6 Premier Cru cuvées, topped by Meix-Cadot, Margotés and Grésigny), and no fewer than 6 red Rully wines, including 3 Premier Cru cuvées (Chapitre, La Fosse and Les Clous). When it comes to maturing the wines, Vincent Dureuil uses around 20-25% new barrels for the white Burgundies, and up to 35% for the red Burgundies. The aim is to accompany the wines, without overpowering them with wood, which could mask the aromatic purity of the grape variety and the terroir. After a year's ageing in wood, the juice is put back into vats for a few weeks before bottling, which generally takes place in early spring. Intensity, energy and purity are the common threads running through the wines of Domaine Dureuil Janthial, with particularly aromatic whites that strike a perfect balance between acidity and minerality. The palate is clean, vibrant and mineral, with great length. As for the reds, Dureuil Janthial wines are fresh and racy, with a fruitiness that is always precise and a balance that commands respect. At Domaine Dureuil Janthial, the Côte Chalonnaise is at its very best, offering remarkable value for money in Burgundy. To be recommended...
