Champagnes Emilien FENEUIL is located in Chamery and has a small vineyard of 2.4 hectares with 17 parcels located in the villages of Sermiers, Chamery and Eceuil (Montagne de Reims). The vineyard is made up of 43% Pinot Meunier, 28% Chardonnay, 22% Pinot Noir and 7% Petit Meslier, a rare and ancient grape variety from the Champagne region. Petit Meslier is rarely used, but it is making a comeback with some winegrowers, as it can be a very good grape variety. Emilien Feneuil took over the family business in 2006, but until 2014, he sold his grape production by the kilo to various estates, including Leclerc Briant and Aurélien Laherte.

The complete range includes 4 Emilien Feneuil Champagnes: "Totum", a blend of the different plots and all the grape varieties; "Les Goulats", a rosé Champagne from maceration, from the Charmery plots; "Les Basses Croix & Les Gillis", 100% Chardonnay, from the Sermiers plots; and "Les Puits", a 100% Pinot Noir, also from Sermiers. 3 Coteaux Champenois complete the range: Les Goulats (Chamery red), Les Basses Croix & Les Gillis (Sermiers white) and Les Puits, a 100% Petit Meslier also from Sermiers. Emilien Feneuil is certified Organic ECOCERT and Biodynamic. In 2015, after 6 years of hard work in the vineyards, he finally decided to produce his first vintage under his own label. Today, in his certified organic vineyards, he uses fermented herbal teas, honey and clay, with the absolute minimum of sulphur and copper required. His ultimate aim is to have as much biodiversity as possible. All the wines produced by Emilien Feneuil come from the same vintage, so 2016 is his second vintage. Fewer than 4,000 bottles are produced, which just goes to show how rare his labels are. The 'Totum' cuvée, made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Petit Meslier, is matured in oak barrels with indigenous yeasts, and the cuvée is not blended. This is a very straightforward, pure Champagne, with a fine verticality, and you should not hesitate to aerate it well before serving. Les Basses Croix & Les Gillis" has an intense nose of ripe, fresh fruit, pear, lemon and peach, with fine floral nuances and citrus zest. And hazelnut. The palate is energetic, powerful and vinous, yet full-bodied with fine, creamy bubbles. Good acidity keeps the wine taut, giving it freshness and a long, saline finish. Emilien Feneuil produces singular and surprising wines, which we recommend to Champagne lovers.
