Yves Cuilleron has become one of the largest producers of the Northern Rhône with 50 hectares on numerous appellations: Condrieu (5 ha), Saint Péray (2 ha), Saint-Joseph (18 ha in red and 5 ha in white), Cote Rotie (6 ha) or Cornas and Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes, over 12 ha. Present on so many terroirs, and talented both with Syrah, Roussanne or Viognier, Yves Cuilleron is a great winemaker offering a dizzying number of wines. Adored for his parcel selections such as the Cuilleron Saint Joseph Les Serines, Cuilleron Cote Rotie Bassenon and Cuilleron Cote Rotie Terres Sombres, Cuilleron Condrieu Les Chaillets and Cuilleron Condrieu Ayguets. Yves Cuilleron's wines are extremely well-made and are an excellent value for your money such as his IGP Collines rhodaniennes "Ripa Sinistra", "Candives" or "Les Vignes d’à Côté". Since 2015 the single-plot selections replaced the previously named wines. For example, "La Digue" replaces "Saint-Pierre" and "Bonnivières" replaces "Terres sombres".Yves Cuilleron's philosophy is simply "produce the best grapes possible" by observing each vine throughout the year. He doesn't forbid any treatmentbut never use them excessively and them only when strictly necessary. Yves Cuilleron respects the ancestral practices of the Northern Rhone such as green harvesting and defoliating to favour ventilation and to lessen plant disease. Harvesting is done manually and the wines are all vinified with indigenous yeasts with no additives. He wishes to make, not a perfect wine, but a wine of terroir that reflects its vintage and soil. They are charming wines that are accessible in youth but can gracefully age. The best recent vintages are 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2015.The vitality of Yves Cuilleron and two other talented winemakers of the Northern Rhone, Pierre Gaillard and François Villard, pushed them to found the Vins de Vienne in 1996 to promote the wines of the Coteaux de Seyssuel, north of Vienne. The slopes of Seyssuel were forgotten after Phylloxera and, yet, are cut from the same chunk of Gneiss as the Cote Rotie, crossed by the Rhône river like Hermitage and Saint Vallier in Crozes Hermitage. Thus were born the iconic wines "Sotanum" in 1998, "Taburum" in 2000 and Heluicum in 2004, and thanks to their conviction, numerous winemakers are now present on the slopes such as Louis Chèze, Stéphane Ogier or Michel Chapoutier.
