Petrus has already got the perfect score of 100 from Parker for its legendary vintages: 2010, 2009, 2000, 1990, 1989, 1961, 1947, 1929, 1921. Petrus' wines have an exceptional ageing potential (more than 40 years); therefore, their best vintages should be kept in the cellar for at least 15 years: 2015, 2014, 2010, 2009, 2006, 2005, 2003, 2001, 2000, 1998, 1995, 1990, 1989, 1982, 1975, 1971, 1970, 1964, 1961, 1950, 1949, 1948, 1947, 1945, 1929, 1921. It is the most popular wine of the whole Pomerol designation (Protected Designation of Origin). It can be considered as a legendary archetype of the greatest wine in the world. Petrus is obviously an outstanding wine, and those who have had the opportunity to taste, vouch for it. However, even though it has been the best for quite a long time, it has also been facing increased competition from other Chateaux for the last 15 years. They have indeed considerably improved their cuvees, and can equal or sometimes even surpass Petrus, as shown by their tasting notes scores for some of the greatest vintages; but Petrus legend remains, and it seems that the price of the Petrus bottles (a yearly production of 25,000 to 30,000 bottles) does not suffer from downside risks. Investing in this wine remains a safe bet.
