All the wines from Pomerol, Bordeaux

Located less than 30km east of Bordeaux in the Libournais part of the vineyard (Right Bank of the Dordogne), the Pomerol designation (PDO) covers an area of ​​813 Ha in the cities of Pomerol and Libourne. Pomerol is one of the most prestigious PDOs but, surprisingly, no official classification of Pomerol wines has ever been made (unlike the Grands Crus Classification in 1855 of the Medoc for instance). However, the designation has a worldwide reputation because of the legendary Chateau Petrus, which can arguably be considered as one of the best Bordeaux red wine. The typicity of Pomerol wines lies in a particular  small size of the designation (7 times less than St Emilion i.e.), with nearly 140 estates (6ha on average/winery). Furthermore, the predominance of the Merlot grape variety (close to 79%) in the blending of Pomerol red wines is another notable feature (ahead of Cabernet Franc (15%), Cabernet Sauvignon (5%), and Malbec (1% )). The typology of the soils is complex, because apart from the famous Petrus, which culminates in an exceptional clay buttonhole, the other Chateaux have soils that range from serious thick to very fine, resting on a sandy or sandy-clay base. Finally, the Moueix family, owner of Petrus and other very famous Crus, has greatly contributed to the recognition of the quality of Pomerol wines, and thus to their success...

Thanks to Merlot, Pomerol red wines are often affordable when younger (between 4 and 8 years old) and are more subtle and opulent than wines composed mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon. The great red wines of Pomerol know how to be vibrant and voluptuous in great vintages, and are sought after by amateurs. The aging capacity of a Pomerol wine is generally very good (10 to 30 years). In terms of food and wine pairing, the very unctuous profile of Pomerol red wines will allow them to combine their flavors of black cherry, raspberry, or sometimes truffle with duck, a woodcock stuffed with foie gras and truffle, a beef with periguous sauce, a Rossini tournedos, or even a cheese like old Gouda.

Within best Pomerol we will therefore find the iconic Chateau Petrus, and the following Chateaux:  La Conseillante, Clinet, Clos L’Eglise, L’Eglise Clinet, Lafleur, Trotanoy, Vieux Chateau Certan, Gazin, Evangile, Lafleur Petrus, Le Pin, Hosanna, Le Gay, La Violette…  Among  the best vintages of the appellation includes: 2015, 2014, 2010, 2009, 2005, 2001, 2000, 1998, 1995, 1990, 1989, 1988, 1985, 1982, 1975, 1971, 1970, 1964, 1961. The immense Petrus have obtained the highest score of 100/100 Parker 10 times in 2015, 2010, 2009, 2000, 1990, 1989, 1961, 1947, 1929, 1921. Lafleur 5 times: 2005, 2000, 1982, 1947, 1945. Le Pin and Eglise Clinet 3 times each, Clinet and Latour in Pomerol 2 times each and Evangile and La Violette 1 time each as well. having such a quantity of remarkable notes, attributed to a so sized-limited region, has helped to maintain the world attention on the Pomerol designation.
