The vines of La Landonne Rostaing grow on a shaly decomposed granite soil, full of iron oxide. The wine made from this plot is defined by its wild berries and liquorice flavours, with strong and deep tannins. It's a wine that manages to combine the typical structure and freshness of Cote Rotie wines. This cuvee has good ageing potential. Its barrel-ageing process did not leave a strong mark on this wine, compared to the Guigal cuvee. It's a great terroir wine, with great length and complexity. The other exceptional cuvee of the Rostaing estate is Cote Blonde. A rich and very elegant wine that displays its character with exotic light tobacco, cinnamon, and violet notes. This cuvee has a tight and deep texture, full of refined tannins. This is a smooth wine with great length. Rostaing Cote Rotie cuvee is made from the blend of 13 different plots, let alone Landonne and Cote Blonde (the Cote Rotie designation includes more than 50). In its youth, Rostaing Ampodium displays blackcurrant and liquorice aromas with great Syrah fruit notes. After a few years in the cellar, this wine develops fine venison flavours. As a matter of interest, Domaine Rostaing, created a special cuvee in 2016: the La Vialliere cuvee is a tribute to Rene Rostaing's grandfather (with an old-school label on the bottle). As for the Rostaing Condrieu la Bonnette cuvee, it is the epitome of the designation. This wine is made from old Viognier vines that grow on limestone soils in the La Bonnette plot. Rostaing also produces red and white Coteaux du Languedoc Puech Noble. Domaine Rostaing's reputation is worldwide, and that's one of the reasons why their wines are so rare on the market. The whole production is always sold directly after the release of each vintage. Thus, do not hesitate to buy a bottle of Domaine Rostaing if you find one that is 10 years old. That's when the whole complexity of Rostaing's wines is at its best.
