Founded by Cyril Fhal in the 2000s, Clos du Rouge Gorge quickly gained renown for its innovative approach and commitment to producing natural wines. Located in Languedoc Roussillon, the estate takes its name from the wild gorge that surrounds it, symbolizing both the natural beauty of the landscape and the authenticity of the wines it produces.
Since 2002, this passionate young winemaker has independently undertaken numerous tasks: a rigorous approach, a commitment to biodynamic vine cultivation with extreme care, and vinification with indigenous yeasts in demi-muids and large oak casks. Cyril Fhal is a role model for this new generation!
The terroir of Clos du Rouge Gorge plays a crucial role in the distinctive quality of its wines. Vines, grown in organic and biodynamic agriculture, thrive on diverse soils, ranging from schist to sandstone, imparting a unique aromatic complexity to the wines. Cyril Fhal pays particular attention to preserving biodiversity, promoting a natural balance in the vineyard.
Vinification at Clos du Rouge Gorge follows a minimalist approach, allowing the natural expression of the grape. Grapes are hand-harvested at perfect ripeness, and vinification, carried out without the addition of yeasts or chemical inputs, allows the wines to fully reflect the terroir. Aging in large oak casks or tanks, depending on the cuvées, is also marked by minimal intervention.
The estate covers 8 hectares, with a significant proportion of old vines, three-quarters dedicated to reds, on beautiful terroirs of schist, granite arenas, and gneiss in Latour-de-France.
For reds, Grenache Noir, Carignan, Cinsault are present.
For whites, Grenache Gris, Macabeu, and Carignan are planted.
The estate offers a range of expressive cuvées, reflecting the diversity of the terroir and Cyril Fhal's artisanal approach. Distinguished, with great natural refinement, far from any artifice, his artistically crafted wines, unfortunately hard to find, are revered by a loyal clientele.
Among the iconic cuvées are fruit-laden reds, refreshing whites, and occasionally experimental cuvées exploring new facets of the terroir. Each bottle embodies the estate's commitment to authenticity and uniqueness.
