The story of Champagne Pierre Deville began in 1963, when Pierre Deville, great-grandfather of Alban Corbeaux, decided to produce his own champagnes outside of the large houses, with an artisanal and family vision. This bold choice marked the beginning of a tradition where each generation contributes its own touch.
In 2000, Christophe and Isabelle Corbeaux took over the helm, energising the estate and continuing the work initiated by Pierre Deville. In 2017, their son Alban Corbeaux, a passionate young oenologist trained in Burgundy, returned to the estate with innovative ideas. Convinced by organic and biodynamic practices, he began converting the plots to more ecosystem-friendly agriculture. Alban, an emerging figure of the new generation of Champagne winemakers, is now crafting champagnes that are both pure and expressive, reflecting a unique terroir.
Champagne Pierre Deville spans 5 hectares, with 4 located in Verzy and 1 hectare in Essoyes. Verzy, renowned for its Grand Cru terroir, is famous for its chalky soils and its ideal climate for Pinot Noir, the emblematic grape of the Montagne de Reims. The estate benefits from a well-balanced vine composition of approximately 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, producing wines with deep aromas and well-managed acidity.
Alban Corbeaux tends to each plot with particular attention, seeking to preserve the biodiversity of the soil and vines. Since 2016, he has gradually adopted biodynamic practices, promoting the natural balance of the terroir and minimising chemical footprints. The old vines from selected lieux-dits provide the champagnes with remarkable structure and aromatic intensity, particularly in his Copin cuvées.
In the cellar, Alban Corbeaux applies natural vinification methods, aiming to best express the identity of each plot. Fermentations occur with indigenous yeasts, ensuring an authentic expression of the Verzy terroir. The use of sulphur is strictly limited, and the champagnes are low-dosage or even non-dosage, preserving exceptional purity and liveliness.
The vinification of Pierre Deville's champagnes takes place in stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, adhering to a meticulous process to prevent excessive oxidation. Malolactic fermentations are fully realised, imparting a silky texture and great aromatic depth to the wines. This meticulous work results in each vintage producing champagnes of unparalleled precision and freshness, designed to enhance gastronomic dishes.
The champagnes of Pierre Deville offer a range of cuvées marked by finesse and complexity, all sourced from the Grand Cru plots of Verzy. Alban Corbeaux presents champagnes crafted from unique vintages and old vines, with particular care for each cuvée:
Copin Blanc de Blancs
A 100% Chardonnay champagne, sourced from old vines in Verzy. This cuvée is an ode to freshness and elegance, with subtle aromas of white flowers and white-fleshed fruits. Its low sulphur content and absence of dosage make it a pure and crystalline champagne, perfect to accompany seafood or delicate dishes.
Copin Blanc de Noirs
A tribute to Pinot Noir, the flagship grape of the Montagne de Reims. This cuvée is rich in aromas of red fruits and spices, with an imposing structure and exceptional length on the palate. Ideal for lovers of characterful champagnes, it reveals the power and depth of Verzy's Pinot Noir.
Each year, Alban selects the best plots to produce vintage champagnes that reflect the quality of the terroir and the influence of the climate on each harvest. Low-dosage, these champagnes are marked by vibrant acidity and a rich texture, perfect for gastronomy.
Alban Corbeaux also experiments with small productions from specific lieux-dits, allowing exploration of the unique characteristics of certain plots. These rare cuvées, often non-dosage, are produced in limited quantities and cater to enthusiasts of exclusive and authentic champagnes.
