Often mistakenly regarded as the second wine of Château Rayas, Pignan is in fact a wine in its own right. Unlike its cousin, which is grown on sandy soil, Pignan comes from terraces of rolled pebbles. This is why it is considered to be the most castel-papal expression of the Reynaud stable. This 100% Grenache traditionally exudes notes of leather, spices and red fruit, but is never heavy. Its supreme balance and endless length make it one of the most sought-after red Chateauneuf-du-Pape wines. It is the ideal companion for saddle of lamb or aubergine gratin with bacon. Pélardon from the Cévennes or ceps à la bordelaise are also excellent table companions.
