He has made great strides in the precision of his winemaking. Stéphane Bernaudeau's Les Onglés comes from this south-west-facing parcel, with delicate notes of white fruit and a clean, mineral attack, complexified by pure, luscious fruit. The Bernaudeau les Terres Blanches cuvée comes from a parcel of old Chenin vines (80 years old), and is located close to the estate on a limestone terroir (as its name suggests). It is very distinguished, with notes of white peach, infusion and chalky minerality. It has a long finish. It should be aired before serving to avoid reduction. Les Nourrissons, Stéphane Bernaudeau's flagship cuvée, comes from a tiny parcel of less than 1 hectare planted in 1910 on a chalky-clay plateau with a warm south/south-west exposure. It is a crystalline wine with a sharp acidity that balances remarkably well with the richness of the chenin. Once this great white wine has reached full aromatic maturity, Les Nourrissons expresses notes of very ripe yellow fruit refreshed by a zest of citrus.
On the palate, the wine is powerful and generous without losing any of its finesse. The minerality is perfectly integrated and stretches out the finish considerably. This wine is made from concentrated, generous but still straight juice, and it benefits from being kept for a few years to make the most of its qualities... This is one of the most singular and interesting chenins in the Loire, and its reputation is growing all the time, just like Richard Leroy's wines. The entire production of Domaine Stéphane Bernaudeau is highly recommendable, and the only drawback is the small number of bottles produced each year. So it's very difficult to get hold of any.
