The 3 Pignier children (Jean-Étienne, Antoine and Marie-Florence Pignier) took over the Pignier estate at the end of the 1980s. They decided to go biodynamic in 1998, and completed Demeter certification in 2003.

In 2020, Antoine's son (Thibault) joined the Domaine Pignier team. With a vineyard of nearly 14 hectares on the slopes of the Lias (fossil) and Trias (variegated) marls around Montaigu, old red varieties such as argant, enfariné and petit béclan are still grown here, but in a minority, and are blended in the attractive cuvée Pignier À Table avec Léandre. The main grape varieties at Domaine Pignier are of course Trousseau, Pinot Noir, Poulsard, Chardonnay and Savagnin. Tuns, barrels, ovoid concrete vats and even jars fill the magnificent 13th-century vaulted cellars of the Carthusian monks, the pride of the Pignier family. The range of wines includes different cuvées of Jura red and Jura white: the Cellier des Chartreux chardonnay cuvée is aged under sail for 3 years and develops a rich nose of dried fruit (almonds and hazelnuts) and buttery notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied, round and biscuity, fat but well-balanced, and a good reflection of its terroir. It is guaranteed to age for at least 10 years. The Côte du Jura Savagnin sous voile has a straw gold colour and a fine, powerful citrus nose. On the palate, candied citrus fruit and walnuts dominate, with good length, finesse and remarkable precision. The wine's structure will also allow it to age gracefully. The Côte du Jura Gamay blanc is made from an old strain of Chardonnay called "Gamay Blanc". Pale gold in colour, its nose evokes all the finesse and elegance of Chardonnay, while its ample, fruity palate is of great purity. The cuvée de trousseau Les Gauthières, matured for 10 months in amphora, has a deep cherry-red colour, and blends complex aromas of red fruit (black cherry) with gentle spices and delicate notes of undergrowth. This is a very elegant, refined wine. The Jura region has recently been in the spotlight, and with Domaine Pignier now widely acclaimed by the critics and cited in the best wine guides, you should not delay too long in discovering them if you have not already done so.
