The Jean-Marc Roulot estate, nestled in the heart of Meursault, boasts a long lineage of winemaking excellence dating back to the 18th century. Under the guidance of Guy Roulot, the estate reached remarkable heights, establishing itself among the best in its appellation alongside prestigious establishments like Dominique Lafon and Coche Dury. The domain gained particular acclaim for producing some of the finest white wines in all of Burgundy.
In 1989, a new era began with Jean-Marc Roulot succeeding his father. While Jean-Marc did not entirely abandon his career as an actor, his commitment to the family domain was unwavering. He remains an actor, recently featured in the film "Ce qui nous lie" focusing on Burgundian viticulture. This generational transition marked a blend of tradition and modernity.
The 11 hectares of vineyards, predominantly dedicated to white grape varieties (comprising 85% of the production), represent an exceptional terroir. Starting in 1999, the estate initiated a transition to organic farming, reaffirming its commitment to environmentally friendly practices. Later, it took a further step by embracing biodynamics, a philosophy deeply rooted in respecting the terroir and its natural balances.
Beyond the exceptional aging potential of its wines, this estate is renowned for ranking its Meursault 1er cru Charmes in second place during the Judgment of Paris. In addition to this, it produces Meursault 1ers crus Le Porusot, Perrières, and Les Bouchères, along with a sublime Meursault Tesson in the village appellation. Red Burgundies constitute 15% of the total production, including a Bourgogne, a Monthélie, and an Auxey Duresses 1er cru.
Jean-Marc Roulot is universally recognized by peers and wine enthusiasts worldwide. He is lauded for his organic approach, reflected in meticulous vine care, strict yield control, and a winemaking process with minimal yet perfectly mastered intervention. Committed to quality, Jean-Marc Roulot deliberately vinifies different Meursault village cuvées separately to preserve their distinct characteristics.
Resulting wines stand out for their purity, freshness, and remarkable minerality, achieved through harvests at optimal maturity. They embody exceptional quality and a confidently asserted style; however, due to their renown, they remain highly coveted and challenging to acquire.
