History of the Domaine

The Domaine des Héritiers du Comte Lafon, located in the Mâconnais region of Burgundy, was acquired in 1999 by Dominique Lafon, from the renowned Domaine des Comtes Lafon in Meursault. Its history dates back to the late 19th century with the marriage of Jules Joseph Barthélémy Lafon and Marie Boch, a property-negotiant in Meursault. Since then, the domaine has been passed down through generations until Dominique Lafon decided to acquire the Mâconnais estate in 1999, subsequently renaming it to its current name. Since 2006, Caroline Gon, and now Elsie Moore, have taken charge of vineyard management, ensuring the maintenance and improvement of the quality of the wines produced. Approximately 150,000 bottles are produced each year, of impeccable quality!

Terroir, Vines, and Vinification

The domaine spans 26 hectares spread across various areas of the Mâconnais, including Milly-Lamartine, Bussières, Clos du Four, and Viré-Clessé. The vines have been cultivated according to the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture since 2003. Vinification is traditional and parcel-based, with minimal intervention, and the wines are aged in demi-muids and foudres. This respect for the terroir and natural cultivation methods results in wines that are tense, sharp, straight, crystalline, sapid, and refined, appreciated for their great aging potential.

Cuvées and Main Appellations

Caroline Gon produces wines of consistent and even increasing quality! They exhibit very beautiful balances, fruit maturity, typical terroir minerality, integrated and discreet aging, as well as enjoyable tasting from a young age but also a strong aging potential!

Among the flagship cuvées of the domaine, we find:

Mâcon Milly-Lamartine: A lively and lemony white, perfect for accompanying fish and seafood.

Mâcon Clos de la Crochette: A wine with a clear robe, aromas of citrus, butter, and flowers, with good acidity and a beautiful length on the palate.

Mâcon Uchizy Les Maranches: A fruity and floral wine, with a beautiful amplitude in the mouth, richness, and subtle minerality.

Mâcon Bussières – Le Monsard: A fruity cuvée with aromas of white-fleshed fruits and flowers, structured around an acidic backbone, with a persistent finish.

Viré-Clessé: A wine with a straw-yellow robe, aromas of exotic fruits and flowers, balanced between roundness and mineral acidity, with a fresh and lively finish.

Pouilly-Fuissé: A mineral wine, marked by chalky and saline notes, with a strong aging potential.

The Domaine des Héritiers du Comte Lafon is praised by wine critics, with a constant progression towards excellence. It represents one of the safest values in the Mâconnais, offering wines of remarkable quality and great expressiveness.
