Claude Ruinart's heirs ran the house until 1963, when Ruinart joined forces with Moët et Chandon (taken over by LVMH in 1987). The emblematic bottle format and the creamy signature of the wines are distinctive features of the Ruinart house. This style seems to appeal to the widest possible audience, and the house range includes Ruinart R (with or without vintages), Ruinart Blanc de Blancs, Ruinart Rosé, and Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs and Dom Ruinart Rosé. In recent years, the wines have become purer and more precise, and Ruinart has increased its market share. Ruinart's signature cuvée, "R de Ruinart" is a blend of 40% Chardonnay, 40-45% Pinot Noir and 10-15% Meunier, including 25-30% reserve wines from the two years preceding the base. The nose is fine, fresh and fruity, with notes of white fruit (pear, reinette apple), apricot and fresh hazelnuts and almonds. A few floral and spicy notes on a background of brioche and biscuit add extra complexity and olfactory intensity. On the palate, the wine is well-balanced, fairly round and fleshy, with aromas of ripe fruit (greengage and nectarine) and a long finish. The Champagne Ruinart Blanc de Blancs cuvée, made from 100% Chardonnay, has a nose of great intensity, with notes of fresh fruit and ripe citrus fruit, followed by fine notes of white flowers and white peach. The attack on the palate is supple and harmonious, with plenty of roundness enhanced by superb freshness. The palate is totally consistent with the nose, with notes of nectarine and citrus fruit, and a lovely minerality on the finish, which is long and very refreshing. Champagne Dom Ruinart Rosé is a great cuvée, a true meditation rosé. The nose is subtle and fresh, with exotic fruits (guava, lychee) and small red fruits (raspberry, cherry, wild strawberry), with a floral hint of rose. Silky and fleshy on the palate, with aromas of pomegranate, guava and lychee, pink grapefruit and peppermint. The wine is juicy, marked by this gourmet intensity, and finishes with great length. The Ruinart style knows how to please, and the quality is always there. The unique, recognisable format of Ruinart bottles helps to establish the brand's visual identity with its public.
