The Auvenay range of wines produced in this tiny estate consists of 5 Grand Crus (Mazis Chambertin, Bonnes Mares, Bâtard Montrachet, Criots Bâtard Montrachet, and Chevalier Montrachet). In addition to this, there is a limited range with cuvées from Meursault (including Narvaux and the Premier Cru Gouttes d'Or),Puligny Montrachet (Enseignères, En La Richarde, 1er Cru Les Combettes), Auxey Duresses (Les Clous, La Macabée, Les Boutonniers), and the superb Bourgogne Aligoté Sous le Châtelet. The entire production follows biodynamic principles, and a stroll through the vineyards quickly reveals those of the Auvenay estate. The vines are at a human height as they are not pruned here, behaving like a vine, twisted in a braid, then gently laid on the trellis wires. When the leaves fall, the rows resemble endless arches. The concentration of the wines is simply phenomenal as yields are kept to a minimum (less than 15 HL per hectare). All the exceptional wines produced by the Auvenay estate are worthy of praise, and critics are effusive, with tasting notes that border on perfection (between 97 and 100/100). At the top of the production stands the triptych of the white Grand Crus (Bâtard, Criots-Batard, and Chevalier Montrachet), but even the Auxey Duresses from Auvenay or the simple Bourgogne Aligoté from Auvenay allows the discerning taster to approach the Holy Grail of what is best in Burgundy. In the trilogy of white Grand Crus from the Auvenay estate, Criots Bâtard Montrachet impresses with its floral perfume. It offers a mouth of exemplary ardor and refinement, and it is absolutely necessary to let the wine flourish for 15 to 20 years. The Meursault 1er Cru Les Gouttes d'Or is a great wine, whose blind tasting would probably make many Montrachets pale, due to its solidity and minerality, giving it a majestic appearance. Auxey-Duresses Les Clous d'Auvenay offers delicate aromas of almond on the nose, underlined by a beautiful mineral touch. In the mouth, it shows great finesse and stands out for its rare harmony and exceptional length. Of course, the Auvenay estate, due to its excessively limited production (less than 8000 bottles/year), cannot meet the very high international demand that its immense notoriety inevitably causes (its production is adored by all great wine enthusiasts). However, you must have tasted this type of wine at least once in your life, appreciating the density and phenomenal energy that emanate from it. Such wines provide a completely unique tasting experience, leaving an indelible memory.
